CHOOSE LIFE INTERNATIONAL NEWSLETTER September – October 2020

Dear
Friend

World Suicide
Prevention Day Virtual Conference 2020

What
a mighty God we serve! So much happened in the months of September and October
that I cannot keep up. This year we hosted the 12th World
Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) Seminar now, Conference.  What a
God!!!!! This year it was virtual and we had approximately 850 persons on Zoom
and another 150 on an exclusive YouTube link.  It was an amazing
conference in which Dr Murad Khan, from Pakistan and President of the
International Association of Suicide Prevention was the guest speaker in our
Opening Ceremony, and he delivered a comprehensive overview on Suicide
Prevention.  We also had presenters from the United Kingdom and
Trinidad along with our Jamaican presenters.  Here are some comments:

            “It
was a very enlightening experience. Continue the good work.” – JC

            “Slides
uniformed….. panels defined…. moderators excellent…. Q&A handled
with decorum…. zoom management proficient….You asked God for over
500… He went  exceedingly above ….

            TO
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH BE ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY …..I have
never attended this type of event …..  I was captivated
and  educated….. I stayed the entire time and
              learnt much…. Many many
many congratulations….. GOD is well pleased👏🏼👏🏾👏” – PG

It really was a great
conference and there were persons on who needed help personally or help for
their family or friends.  God be praised. God did it again!!!

Donovan had several
interviews in the media related to suicide prevention which went very well.
Praise God. He was on CVM TV, LOVE FM and in the Daily Gleaner and the Jamaica
Observer. God be praised for the opportunities afforded us.

Choose Life International is
12 years old

We celebrated our 12th Anniversary
on October 1 with an online church service during one of Swallowfield Chapel’s
weekly meetings.  We had testimonials from persons who were impacted
by our ministry on a personal and corporate level, inclusive of Digicel Jamaica
and Hawkeye Security Limited.

Collaboration with the  Ministry
of Education, Youth and Information (MOEYI)

There were two
suicides of children under 10 years old within a month of each other. Because
of the delay in the start of the new school year and all the attendant Covid-19
anxieties and fears,  in order to help the students to have an I CAN
attitude, the MOEYI requested the collaboration of CLI to provide psychosocial
support by doing 3 Power Talks on Television Jamaica (TVJ) at the beginning of
the school year, October 5-7.  Donovan’s talk was: I Can, Yes
I Can
and Be Happy and Faith did Gratitude is
a Must
.  These went very well and we got very positive reviews
from the organizers and the audience. Praise the Lord.

Webinars with Organizations
and Churches

God opened the door
for us to do Webinars with Scotiabank and also with Wisynco with their
supervisors and managers on Managing the Psychological Impact of
Covid-19
.  These presentations went well and the organizers and
participants felt empowered and motivated.  Persons stated, “Great
session, will take back to the team”; “Thank you guys so much, so helpful, so
inspiring.” We also did presentations with two schools.

Faith did a
presentation on Getting Past Your Past with Women’s
Empowerment Webinar, a group based in Connecticut and persons felt empowered
and motivated to let go hurts from the past. Donovan also did presentations on
Suicide Prevention and we also did a presentation on Battlefield of the Mind
with a church youth group.

CLI Free Webinars

We are now at Webinar
#61.  Who would have dreamt that this could ever have happened. Over
the last 2 months we focussed on the theme of Suicide Prevention in September
and Celebrating Everyday Heroes in October. Many persons used our free suicide
prevention webinars for continuing education.  Our most popular
webinars during the suicide prevention focus, with over 200 participants
were: When Suicide Comes Home; When Suicide Comes to Work and Church
and When Suicide Comes to School –
the latter which had almost 300
participants.   The webinars on Celebrating Everyday Heroes were
very inspirational and powerful and many were impacted. The webinar with Pastor
Mary Wildish  was particularly impacting as she also helped us to
understand the church’s Jewish roots as this relates to prophecy.  Dr
Delroy Jefferson was very inspirational as he took us on a journey of his life
from poverty to philantrophy.  (Remember to check out all our
webinars on our website: www.chooselifeintl.org.

Our Television Show:
GEARED TO LIVE on MTM TV focussed on Suicide Prevention over this period. We
have had special guests Dr Kevin Goulbourne, Director of Mental Health and
Substance Abuse in the Ministry of Health & Wellness; Dr George Leveridge,
Clinical Director, Jamaica Constabulary Force and Dr Donald Stewart, Missionary
to Africa.  We also carried excerpts from the WSPD Seminar on the
programme.  This programme is aired on Thursdays at 6:30pm and
Saturdays at 6:00pm.
